What is normcore?
Normcore is a unisex fashion trend characterized by unpretentious, average-looking clothing.
Normcore wearers are people who do not wish to distinguish themselves from others by their clothing. This is not to mean that they are unfashionable people who wear whatever comes to hand, but that they consciously choose clothes that are undistinguished (except, sometimes, for a highly visible label to impart prestige). The “normcore” trend has been interpreted as a reaction to a fashion oversaturation resulting from ever faster-changing fashion trends.
Normcore clothes include everyday items of casual wear such as t-shirts, hoodies, short-sleeved shirts, jeans and chino pants, but not items such asneckties or blouses. These clothes are worn by men and women alike, making normcore a unisex style
Why is normcore a thing? It seems to be a way for adherents to counteract stereotypes by dressing mundanely in order to stand out. Theories abound regarding why millennials are attracted to the trend, but the prevailing theory suggests that it’s a way for them to reject the idea of “buying in” to a particular style.
Basically, dressing like your parents did 20 years ago is cooler than shelling out money to assume another identity. Of course, it only works if you’re doing it on purpose.
Gap’s new tag line “#dressnormal” actually makes me want to never shop there again. How gross.
It is supposed to make you question what normal is. Not give a specific.
It’s always around Mabon, Samhain, and Yule that I love being wiccan and being a witch. I love all the imagery, all the food to make, everything. Thank you to all of you withy and wiccan tumblrs that inspire me everyday
pro tip: it is ABSOLUTELY OKAY to use fake flowers, plastic cups, LED candles at your altar unless the figure you are honoring demands otherwise!! unlike most religions or practices, most of the time anything you are honoring will be perfectly all right with such things just as long as you uphold the spirit of the prayer and ceremony.
